despiertate

It appears I have been asleep for a month. But always remember, looks can be deceiving. Quite the contrary has been going on. No sleep 'til Brooklyn, and even then not too much. I've been a busy trombeezy. Please bare with the long but eventful recap.

The end of the month was my live performance at Bugjuice.
I heart PPP. So, opening for Tiombe was quite the blessing for me. It was a night of beautiful talented ladies. The honey bunny Rox was on the decks with the lovely Queen Majesty.

Then is was off to the desert to help rep my favorite jewelry line. Bijules held it down in the gorgeous KDU suite. Let me tell you, ballers were coming through there. Literally ballers. Kevin Garnett, Talib Kweli and Jean Grae were just a few of the jaws that dropped at the bling that is Bijules.

Big things were amiss for many a friend of mine in the crazy world that is Vegas. While waiting in line for a shuttle bus, I surprised my boy (apparently superstar DJ) Jedi with a lil goose. He in turn surprised me by inviting me and my cohort Kim to a party in Russel Simmons private suite at the Wynn. Grabass has its benefits.

This is the view that being Russel Simmons buys. Reeeeeediculous. As was the new yoga line the party was promoting. It was the most grotesque thing I saw in vegas. (other than that picture of Jessican Simpson wearing grills that i saw in US Weekly that day... but i digress)

After the novelty of free chicken and bad yoga shirts wore off, Kim and I ditched the party. Turns out, it wasn't so much a 'party' as it was a business meeting that Jedi was djing and Kim and I could only stand our "we're with the DJ" act for so long.

So it was off to House of Blues to pull our "we're with Warner Brothers" act at the Blacksmith show.

Good Peoples (who just so happens to be my management) and Beautiful/Decay threw this sick show.

I was so proud as I watched Jean Grae flippin a verse with her cuffing her hands together while she rapped wearing Bijules matching his/hers cuffs. The show was phenomonal and as usual it was wonderful to see my friends hard work paying off.

A fews day, and a long breathtaking smoke filled ride through the desert later, I was in Hollyworld for the first time. I must say, so much love to Lynn Yee, Eric and Kenshin from Kilo (www.kilointl.com) for putting me up in their hotel when I was in a tough spot. I had some beautiful experiences that included, but were not limited to......

Not one but two trips to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. mmmmhmmmm

A glimpse into the world that is the Sa-Ra house/studio/vibe factory. Their place is wall to wall music, creative energy and warmth. We drank sangria and danced in the kitchen and it fealt as homey and inspiring as I would like the place i live to be one day.
and God bless the Do Over. A true highlight to what LA has to offer. Just around a decade ago I was introduced to the Beat Junkies mixes.

They fed me a steady diet of what was popping in Cali and hip hop in general at the time. It was an experience to see them do their thing on a gorgeous sunday evening with my boy the uber talented Aloe Blacc on the mike.

I loved his look of surprise and huge shout out that NY was in the house when he saw my face in the crowd. I loved the live horn player that was killing it. I just really sweat the feel of that party. It was electric.
I also met up with a sick sick producer Joshone. We hit it off directly and will be doing a lot of work together. Look out for his upcoming single with Sean Paul.It is flippin banger and a half. Look out for my first track with him. In the studio for that this week. His beats are love.

After the sunshine craze, it was back to NY for my grind. I stopped a guy dead in his tracks when I was in the booth doing The Blue Label show this month. The open storefront provides great interaction with the people walking up first avenue. I was playing a jungle hit from a decade ago and he heard it when taking a stroll and felt like he had seen a ghost/ old friend. His thank yous made my day. If you want to be taken back like that or hear the new Oxy Cottontail track, some French club rap, some Gap band and even Eddie Murphy check out my guest spot on the Blue Label show. Download the podcast for September 12th.

This past Monday there was some back-scratchin going on. It was Ladies Lotto time to give back at our first Benefit for Planned Parenthood.

I played a short set along with DJ Lindsey, the Syrup Girls and a live set from Northern State. Then it was off to Sway for Girl on Girl....

Don't let the flyer confuse you. It was me, Maragaret, on the decks ALL DAG NIGHT!!!! My six hour set was documented by the lovely and talented Emily Rawlings. www.emilyrawlings.com

So thats been it so far. ommitting the crazyness that was the Collete party, Bijules show, and Missbehave releases from fashion week. Phew. I promise more frequent updates from here on out. I feel like I just ran a marathon.

nearly a decade of crazy

I got a camera for my birthday (thanks friends) but I need a memory card and my iphoto isn't working right. So I'm still copping Roxy's flics. babysteps. So many of my photos will be of my NY nights and fam. But this post is about some far but not forgotten heroes and best friends. These two girl have seen my through nine years of my madness. This includes several years of raving and more substances than I would care to recall. I know wherever I am, whatever I am doing we are together in heart and these bitches got my back from way back.
Here is what they used to look like
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Crazy Amy and Ghetto Booty Jill
now hopefully Jill won't kill me for saying that, but it was her nickname. And honestly, homegirl got the best onion you ever seen in your life. Dancing brought us together. No matter what changes or how old we grow we will still be up on that floor losing our minds for the latest. It could proove to be tragic in about 20 years or so when I am still dropping it like its hot or waving my jacket over my head like a helicopter. I'll cross that bridge when it comes.
This is Jill now

My how we've grown. Jill is now teaching English in Tokyo. Amazing. She has made her grand escape and when she's done with her year she is traveling to Bali and then who knows where.
This is Amy now (seen through the eyes of her fiance Ray)

Amy is getting her BA in the fall. She is studying to be a drug counselor. The irony is palpable. She is getting married next year to one of my dear friends. They just purchased a house in DC.
I am so proud to step back and see who they have become. They are my heros in the way they are so different from me and our accomplishments so varied.

You're freakin crazy, I'm freakin crazy, we're freakin crazy, probably

Another sweet night with friends who inspire laughter, ass-shaking, hustle and mainly big good-ole heart-hurting smiles.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Rox took me to the Spankrock show at Tribeca Cinemas. The setup there was weird but we got backstage and it was Vodka, Yager and mini banana blunts in the underworld tunnels of the theater.

if there was a way to spell trouble with just an image....
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Ok so basically if you are reading this and you haven't been to one of their shows yet just look at this...
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
that picture speaks for itself. and New York dances. Seriously the boys kill it and NEW YORK dances. hard.
They pulled Roxy onstage to hook it up with a chorus. pun intended. Being someone who is dynamic as hell translates beautifully live. Be very excited for her "coming out" party. Record release for "Blow" at Hiro. More to come.
After the show we all headed to Sterereo for Whip It (one of roxy's jump-offs).

Naeem was soooo tired from wrecking shop. We retired to Roxy's for more banana minis and a late night beer. When I got home the sun was rising and I fell fast asleep very satisfied. i woke up damn sore though. the spankro show really made me throw my dang back out!

Holy crap

I'm almost as happy as this guy. Ladies Lotto tonight then off to shake that damn thang with my favorite Roxy at the S. Rock show. hell yayer
