It appears I have been asleep for a month. But always remember, looks can be deceiving. Quite the contrary has been going on. No sleep 'til Brooklyn, and even then not too much. I've been a busy trombeezy. Please bare with the long but eventful recap.
The end of the month was my live performance at Bugjuice.
I heart PPP. So, opening for Tiombe was quite the blessing for me. It was a night of beautiful talented ladies. The honey bunny Rox was on the decks with the lovely Queen Majesty.
Then is was off to the desert to help rep my favorite jewelry line. Bijules held it down in the gorgeous KDU suite. Let me tell you, ballers were coming through there. Literally ballers. Kevin Garnett, Talib Kweli and Jean Grae were just a few of the jaws that dropped at the bling that is Bijules.
Big things were amiss for many a friend of mine in the crazy world that is Vegas. While waiting in line for a shuttle bus, I surprised my boy (apparently superstar DJ) Jedi with a lil goose. He in turn surprised me by inviting me and my cohort Kim to a party in Russel Simmons private suite at the Wynn. Grabass has its benefits.
This is the view that being Russel Simmons buys. Reeeeeediculous. As was the new yoga line the party was promoting. It was the most grotesque thing I saw in vegas. (other than that picture of Jessican Simpson wearing grills that i saw in US Weekly that day... but i digress)
After the novelty of free chicken and bad yoga shirts wore off, Kim and I ditched the party. Turns out, it wasn't so much a 'party' as it was a business meeting that Jedi was djing and Kim and I could only stand our "we're with the DJ" act for so long.
So it was off to House of Blues to pull our "we're with Warner Brothers" act at the Blacksmith show.
Good Peoples (who just so happens to be my management) and Beautiful/Decay threw this sick show.
I was so proud as I watched Jean Grae flippin a verse with her cuffing her hands together while she rapped wearing Bijules matching his/hers cuffs. The show was phenomonal and as usual it was wonderful to see my friends hard work paying off.
A fews day, and a long breathtaking smoke filled ride through the desert later, I was in Hollyworld for the first time. I must say, so much love to Lynn Yee, Eric and Kenshin from Kilo (www.kilointl.com) for putting me up in their hotel when I was in a tough spot. I had some beautiful experiences that included, but were not limited to......
Not one but two trips to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. mmmmhmmmm
A glimpse into the world that is the Sa-Ra house/studio/vibe factory. Their place is wall to wall music, creative energy and warmth. We drank sangria and danced in the kitchen and it fealt as homey and inspiring as I would like the place i live to be one day.
and God bless the Do Over. A true highlight to what LA has to offer. Just around a decade ago I was introduced to the Beat Junkies mixes.
They fed me a steady diet of what was popping in Cali and hip hop in general at the time. It was an experience to see them do their thing on a gorgeous sunday evening with my boy the uber talented Aloe Blacc on the mike.
I loved his look of surprise and huge shout out that NY was in the house when he saw my face in the crowd. I loved the live horn player that was killing it. I just really sweat the feel of that party. It was electric.
I also met up with a sick sick producer Joshone. We hit it off directly and will be doing a lot of work together. Look out for his upcoming single with Sean Paul.It is flippin banger and a half. Look out for my first track with him. In the studio for that this week. His beats are love.
After the sunshine craze, it was back to NY for my grind. I stopped a guy dead in his tracks when I was in the booth doing The Blue Label show this month. The open storefront provides great interaction with the people walking up first avenue. I was playing a jungle hit from a decade ago and he heard it when taking a stroll and felt like he had seen a ghost/ old friend. His thank yous made my day. If you want to be taken back like that or hear the new Oxy Cottontail track, some French club rap, some Gap band and even Eddie Murphy check out my guest spot on the Blue Label show. Download the podcast for September 12th.
This past Monday there was some back-scratchin going on. It was Ladies Lotto time to give back at our first Benefit for Planned Parenthood.
